 The Research Institute for Energy and Nuclear Technology in Norway is an independent foundation established in 1948 with departments at Kjeller and in Halden. With a staff of about 520, IFE is an international research centre for nuclear and energy technology.
 The abbreviation SINTEF means The Foundation for Scientific and Industrial Research at the Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTH). The SINTEF Group is the largest independent research organisation in Scandinavia. Every year, SINTEF supports the development of 2000 or so Norwegian and overseas companies via our research and development activity.

 StatoilHydro is the leading producer on the Norwegian continental shelf and is operator for 20 oil and gas fields. Represented in 40 countries, the group has about 29 500 employees. Nearly 50 per cent of these employees work outside Norway. Statoil is a leading retailer of petrol and oil product in Scandinavia, Ireland, Poland and the Baltic states. StatoilHydro is an integrated European energy company and a main producer of hydropower and wind power and has a role in transport and trading of energy across Europe.
 ExxonMobil is the fourth largest oil and gas producer operating on the Norwegian continental shelf. It has ownership interests in around 20 producing gas and oil fields, and holds an interest of about 10% in the Norwegian infrastructure for gas transportation and treatment.
 The Norwegian power market was the first in the world to be opened up to general competition. The 1992 conversion of Statkraft into the production and sales enterprise Statkraft SF and the grid enterprise Statnett SF was a foundation stone in the liberalisation of Norwegian power supplies. Statkraft has played a vital role in the restructuring of the Nordic power market. . The Statkraft-alliance is Europe's second largest producer of renewable energy.
